Pandas for Pandas

Pandas for Pandas is a campaign launched in conjunction with Cheshire Police to make knitted Panda Bears for their police cars.

Our aim initially is for every police car within Cheshire Police to carry two Panda Bears at all times, so if any children are present when the police are in attendance, they will be given a Panda Bear.

We need lots of help making our Panda Bears, so if you can knit, then please buy a pack and download our pattern.  You can send your Pandas back to us at Crafty Stitches, but we are working on making this a national scheme and hopefully we will find drop off points around the country for our Panda Bears.

Description

Pandas for Pandas is a campaign launched in conjunction with Cheshire Police to make knitted Panda Bears for their police cars.

Our aim is initially for every police car within Cheshire Police to carry two Panda Bears at all times, so if any children are present when the police are in attendance, they will be given a Panda Bear.

The initiative started with Special Sergeant Sarah Johns back in 2017, when she approached us at Crafty Stitches to help make trauma bears for Northwich Police Station.  Sp Sergeant Sarah Johns was then nominated for a Lord Ferrers award and we were invited to attend this award ceremony in London in November 2017.

We were aware of lots of groups around the country making similar bears for their police forces, but there is no national standards and we felt that such an important initiative should be the same throughout the country.

As such, we redesigned our bears to Pandas and have used specific yarn and toyfilling to make them.  We have tested our Panda so that they meet CE Testing standards, therefore any Panda made to our design needs to use the same materials – we have used Hayfield Bonus DK in Black, White and Bright Lemon (819) and toy filling which states EN71 on the packet.  Please do not use any other materials than those stated.

We need lots of help making our Panda Bears, so if you can knit, then please buy a pack and download our pattern.  You can send your Panda’s back to us at Crafty Stitches, but we are working on making this a national scheme and hopefully we will find drop off points (we wish to link with other wool shops) around the country for our Panda Bears.  It is important that Panda’s are taken to agreed drop off points, so that any final checks can be made prior to them being delivered to Police Forces.

There is a lot happening behind the scenes with our Pand’s, so please keep visiting this page to find out more infomation on our Pandas.

    Thank you Margaret

I will take a look into this and see what we are able to do. We have plans to make this bigger and better this year, linking in with our Yarn Shop Day event on Saturday 27th April.

    Kind regards

    Louise
